A video dedicated to one of the most highly rated youngsters in Europe, James McCarthy, who not only has a host of European clubs interested him but also two countries! James McCarthy is an 18-year-old midfielder who plays for Hamilton FC in the Scottish Premier League. He has been linked to a host of top clubs across Britain and the continent. McCarthy was born in Scotland but had an Irish grandfather who played a big role in his life. He decided therefore to represent the Irish nation. This caused a lot of controversy in Scotland where he has had to suffer some disgraceful sectarian abuse from some fans. He has nonetheless pledged his future to the Irish team and is tipped for a senior cap in the not-too-distant future. He has been compared by some to Roy Keane and some have labelled him as the ‘next Steven Gerrard’. When he was 16 Rafa Benitez was said to have claimed he was better than Gerrard was at that age. McCarthy turned down the chance of a move to Liverpool on the grounds that he wanted to gain first-team experience in the SPL in order to improve his game.
