FATV today had exclusive behind the scenes access to England’s training session ahead of the vital qualifier which could see England qualify with a game left to play. The team appeared relaxed and in good spirits… England will reach a milestone in Montenegro. England’s Euro 2012 Qualifier in Podgorica tonight is arguably their 900th match in history. The Three Lions have so far featured in 897 completed internationals, plus two that weren’t completed. Argentina v England in Buenos Aires in 1953 was abandoned after 21 minutes due to a waterlogged pitch but the respective FAs agreed that the 0-0 score should stand as a final result. Republic of Ireland v England in Dublin in 1995 was abandoned after 27 minutes due to crowd trouble and didn’t have a final result — but caps were awarded. England’s first-ever match was played against Scotland in Glasgow on 30 November 1872. An estimated crowd of 3500 at the West of Scotland Cricket Ground in Partick saw a 0-0 draw that Bell’s Life described as “one of the jolliest, one of the most spirited and most pleasant matches that have ever been played according to Association rules”. England’s World Cup Final victory in 1966 was their 409th match. Scotland v England in Glasgow on 5 April 1902, at which there were fatalities after part of a stand collapsed, was declared void.
